This week me and my partner created a plan for our opening scene. we created a script , whole film narrative , call sheet and a treatment. we found that the time we made for making our opening scene would be to little so we needed to add more time in order for us to finish the opening scene. we also found out that we would need to find actors which would be willing to give up their time so they could come and help us. Another issue was getting a message back from a rapper named 'sqeeks' so we would be able to use his music in our opening scene as me and my partner both agreed that his music would work and relate the best. We also realized that we hadn't thought of our location properly as we both decided to use my partners house but he was going to have work done in-between our filming as a result we needed to choose another location. Also in our pre-production we planned that our main character would rob a shop however we went around to local shops and no one would allow us to film as they where either too busy or didn't want the hassle.
We then decide we had to switch up our opening scene and not use the shop. We also decided that we should film the house part of the film first so we don't get in way of the builders who where doing work on the house. We also sent a message to sqeeks on the same day so if he doesn't reply we will have enough time to look for some other music or create our own type of music for the opening scene. We also both said that we would give up our own time in order to finish the opening scene on time. We also asked our friends in advance if they would help us produce our opening scene so they wouldn't make any plans and be available for that day.

Production log 4
In week four me and my partner made a question in order to get some information from our target audience. we handed out the questionnaires to a lot people so we could get a good sampling size which would make the results more reliable. In my results i found that my audience are into films which can relate to them such film as kidulthood and adulthood. As a result i plan to make my opening scene about gangs and poverty as many people around east London can relate to these problems. kidulthood and adulthood where the most common films which my target audience had watched. As a result i plan to add the same type of themes and convention which are in kidulthood and adulthood to get the biggest audience and make my opening scene even more successful.
Also i learnt that institutions which are involved in the production of british social realist films are not very popular. They are unknown institutions which don't have a lot of money. There is normal more then one institutions involved in creating one british social realism film. For example kidulthood has three institutions which helped with the production of the film.
This will inform my production because now i know what my target audience like an dislike. My Target audience seem to be into gangs and violence theme films as they can easily relate to such things in east London. Also has they like to relate to the films they watch i have decided to film my production in east London as that's where most my target audience live. i will also take some mise-en-scene from kidulthood and try to put it into my own film with a little twist on it. As a result this week as let me get closer to my target audience and let their opinion count towards the production of the opening scene.

Project log 3
This week we studied institutional credits in as media , This help me gain more marks for my as opening scene. I will be including more details in my typography . I realised that there are much more credits then i thought and in fact that instead of there being only credits for the main characters there are credits for the crew members and cast which go go on for 2-3minutes. I created my own time line for the opening scene of East of east. In this opening scene the credits went on for 3 minutes. In the credits there was every single main actor and cast member which helped produce the film. The typography was very plain and didn't have a fancy font. I also broke down the opening scene into shots and analysed what happened in every single shot that appears in the opening scene. There was also music all the way through the credits which showed that the film hadn't started yet. From analysing the credits i realised that i am going to need to keep my credits simple , and not to overpowering. They also should be on the side so they gain attention but no so that the audience get distracted by them. I have also been informed that the more popular the actor is sooner their name is brought up in the titles , this will not be carried out in my opening scene because all the actors are inexperienced and are not famous for acting.
Treatment
Title:
The title of the film will be Fast Life. The reason that we picked this film was due to the fact that it gives an insite to what the film is about. The term Fast Life in the urban scene usually means a person who is generating a large amount of money from dealing in illegal items E.g. Drugs,Guns and fake clothes. The title may not be the most sutable title for a film but due to the fact that it is a BSR film a large percent of our target audience will know what the film would be about just by reading the title. Our target audience will be able to relate to the title and if they cannot they will know someone who is currently living the "Fast Life".
The reason that we picked this title for the film is that a large amount of people know what the term "Fast Life" means but for those who do not then they will learn and thus making our film also have a learning aspect to it.
Identify T.A:
Our target audience will be a group of males aged 16+ which can be placed in the working class category. We have picked this target audience due to the fact that they would be able to relate to the story personally or through someone they know. We have picked the age of 16+ in our production due to the fact that their will be be serious issues addressed in the film.
I asked a couple of students that are currently in full time education in east London, this is also the same location where the film will be shot. A large majority of the group agreed that we have a very appealing story line that they would find interesting. The other small majority of the group agreed that the film was a very stereotypical stereotype of east London which is that all of the youths are involved in some type of gang related, illegal money motivated scheme.
Technology:
During our production we will be using HD cameras to film our production. The reason that we are going to use HD cameras is because there are the cameras that are available in our media department. These are cheap and easy to use cameras, this is convenient due to the fact that we have a very low budget. The camera is also small in size so we can easily move between locations at a very convenient rate.We are also going to be using a Boom Microphone in order to inchance our sound quality in our production.
The reason that we are going to be using a boom mic is because the cameras are not that good at recording diegetic sound.
As well as this we are going to be using logic and garage band to add music into our production because these are programs that we have in our media department as well as very easy to obtain programs.
The only limitations that we will have is that there are a limited number of supplies in our media department, this is bad as if we come to late then we might not be able to film anything until another group returns the item that we need E.G if there no more cameras or Boom Mics.
Another limitation is that we only have a certain amount of hours of natural day light meaning that we will have to use our time well and organise everything then stick to a plan that we have drafted.
Representation.
Protagonist- The main character in the film is going to be a male black character named Terrel , his has had a bad childhood in which his mum and dad sadly died , as a result he has to live with his nan. He wears the same clothes in all the scene which show that he hasn't got alot. The clothes his wearing are going to be non branded which can connote that he cant afford them. Terrel tries hard in school but is unable to keep up with the other students in his class because his home conditions don't allow him to succeed to the best of his ability. He tries to make friends but is unable to because other students in the class take the mick out of his clothes. His a very lonely character which makes the audience feel sorry for him , but as the film goes on Terrel gets into crimes which compels the audience to dislike him , however the surprise ending will show the true feelings of Terrel. This will be a stereotypical representation of a black male character which is struggling and is working class.Antagonist - The antagonist is middle class child who becomes Terrels friend but during the cause of the film he starts to lose hope in his friend and eventually sells his friends out for a bit of money. The middle class person is called Kyle who is the same age as Terrel and they have been partners since they had started doing what they where doing.
Kyle starts to hate on Terrel and the fact that Terrel is making more money than him even though he is not putting in as much work and effort as Terrel. This creates a chance for outsiders to slip through and offer Kyle money for information on Terrel.
Narrative:
Narrative Our film starts as Terrel is in a chance running through back rounds and doing everything in his power to get away, this includes running across busy roads and putting his own life as well as the police that are chasing him . We then later meet Terrel as house enters his house after the chase. Terrel then slides down house door and sits on the floor with his hands on his head showing that he is contemplating something. The next day Terrel is in school and receives verbal abuse about his financial background and the fact that he is no longer with his mum and dad. Terrel is then called over by a group of older boys that seem to be making money and at first glance Terrel wants to be a part of that life. The older boys then agree to meet Terrel after school to speak more about finding a way to get Terrel to make money with them.We then later meet Terrel a few monther later when he is dressed as if he has obtained a large amount of money. Terrels life then become hectic as he has to deal with a large deal of drama from friends talking behind his back to the police wanting to put him in a cell for various reasons. Our opening scene starts in a corner shop where Terrel is attempting to steal a chocolate as he does not have enough money to buy it. The shopkeepr then catches Terrel trying to steal the chocolate and chases Terrel down the road in order to get his choclate back but Terrel manages to get away, without the chocolate. Terrel then runs into his house and quickly slams the door behind him to make sure that it shuts rapidly and there is no way that anyone is going to follow him into his house. Terrel then slides down the door with his hands on his head as if he is showing a sign of regreat or even pain. The audience will also be given a close up in order to get to a good look at Terrels face.
Conventions:
the conventions that will be shown in our production will be non-professional actors, location shooting, humour and seriousness. Our BSR may have a little bit of hybrid elements as we will be adding the affect of mystery right at the start of our production. We are going to do this in order to get the audience to stay seated and give them a chance to try and get involved with our production.
Style and iconography:
Our camerawork will be used to create effects for the audience by doing close ups on our characters, this will allow us to show the facial expression of our characters and also to see the facial features of the characters. This will also get the audience familiar to our characters.
we will also use angles E.G a low angle looking up will make the character seem powerful and dominant in the scene where as the opposite of this will be a high angle looking down, this will make the character look like he is powerless in this scene and look like he has no authority.
During editing i will lower my contrast by 10%, this will give the effect that the room is a little bit more gloomy and that there is something that is happening in the area that is being filmed that the audience may feel like it needs to be explored.
I will use costumes and props as visual signifies by getting different characters to wear different colours and outfits that may give the audience an in site to the characters personality. This will be done by getting the more dangerous and mysterious characters to wear black and other dark, shady colours where as the cheerfully and non-mysterious characters may be wearing more bright and light colours.
As well as this we are going to be using found props E.g bottles and cans that can be found lying around the street. these are going to be used in order for us to give a more accurate BSR production.
We will use sound to create an effect for the audience by using syncronus. This means that the music will match the characters mood and actions E.g if the music is dark then the character on the screen would also be in a dark mood this would be shown by the way he is walking, acting and talking to others.
Institution:
The prodcution company in the brief have a impact on the type of the film that we produce due to the fact that they would not have the highest budget therefor we would have to use hand held cameras. Aswell as this we will use found props due to the fact that we would not have a big enough budget to buy all the props that we would need. Our film will be distributed by Film 4. We have chosen this because Film 4 have a distrubition company which would be able to distrubute our prodcution. Aswell as that they also have a tv company meaning that our production will be able to show our production aswell.
Our film would be exhibited on Film 4 and channel 4. This is due to the fact that Film 4 are well known for producing films that fit into the BSR catagery. I think that putting our film on Film 4 would give it a large amount of publicity as Film 4 is a free channel and thus meaning that around 95% of thr population will be able to watch our film without having to pay a single penny.
Whole Film Narrative
Exposition Protagonists:
We first meet our main character in a corner shop as he is trying to steal a chocolate bar due to the fact that he cannot afford it. The main characters name is Terrel and he is 16 years old at the present time that we meet him. Our main character has been through a lot of pain throughout his life, due to the fact that he lost his parents and they where both drug addicts. Another reason that his life is not that good is because he lives with his nan and they cannot afford a great deal of things in life. Terrel is also alone as no one understands him as he also gets bullies when he is in and around the vicinity of school. All of these facotrs lead to Terrel making a few wrong decisions in life and also lead to him getting in with the wrong crowd of people in his local area. Due to the fact that Terrel did not grow up with his dad he has to teach himself how to be a man and that makes his life a lot harder than it should be.Agents of change:
The name of the antagonist is Ronzo. Ronzo is currently 18 at the time of the and genrates a large amount of his money from dealing drugs to people that require them in his community. Ronzo first meets Terrel in School when he is getting laughed at by a large amount of people in the school playground. Ronzo relises that Terrel is in dire need of money and thus uses him as a way to make money for himself and in return he makes Terrel gain financial wealth at the same time. Ronzo is known for police for dealing class A drugs and due to Terrel being with Ronzo everyday this leads to Terrel beingi n the same situation. Ronzo is also known for fire arm and armed robbery, this means that he is seen as a threat in the community.Conflict Complication:
The conflict point starts when Ronzo first sees Terrel from the other side of the playground. Ronzo then becomes persistant in his mission to get Terrel to make money for him as he has seen that Terrel has tbe abilities needed. They first set eyes on each other in the school playground at break time. Terrel stands out to Ronzo due to the fact that he has no friends and is also being laughed at by a large percent of the people in the playground. The two people are very different in the way that Ronzo is popular and Terrel has not god a single friend, also Ronzo has a great deal of money while Terrel does not even own a pound to his name.Elaboration
Terrel then starts to work for Ronzo and in due time he starts to become popular aswell, Terrel also begins to attract female attention to himself as the girls start to recognise him due to all of the jewerlly that he is wearing. Between all of this Terrel becomes good friend with a boy called Kyle, these two boys become best friends. Terrel then starts to move with Kyle and they both start making money togeather from what they have learnt through Ronzo. The money started to pile up in vast amounts and they both begin their rise to the top in the organised crime world. Despite many obsticles Terrel and Kyle still remain friends and their trust for each other grows everyday. This is all good untill Terrel gets in contacts with another Drug dealer who can offer him what he needs for cheaper than what he currently pays. Terrel does not tell Kyle about the cheaper drugs and in return Terrel begins to make more money than Kyle. While all of this is going on Terrel has got his foot through the wrong persons door. Word soon gets around that a group of people are looking for Terrel and that means that he has to get protection , this leads to Terrel buyig a gun in order to keep himself safe.Terrel thinks that he is fully safe but he forgets that sometimes friends can cause more damage than enermys, Kyle's hatred for Terrel making more money soon gets to the limit and Kyle gives the where abouts of Terrl and his money.
The gang that are looking for Terrel than find him and take all of his money leaving his very angry.
Terrel then find out that it was Kyle who gave Terrel up so in return he goes to confront Kyle and Kyle relises that he made a massive mistake and agrees to help Terrel get his things back.
Climax & Resolution:
Terrel and Kyle then go and find the gang that had robbed Terrel, but this is easier said than done as they first have to find out where the people that took his money have still got his money. Once this is confermed Terrel and Kyle loud up their guns and go pay the robbers a visit that involves more than speaking about their differences.Coda:
We than are greeted with a black screen with a message that says 5 months later and we see Terrel and Kyle doing what they know how to do best. Drug dealing. However this time Terrel and Kyle are truely best friends and no amount of money will be able to come inbetween them as they have truley gained each others trust.
