Production log 8

Production log 8

This week was a more productivity week then before. The main problem we are having in post production is sharing the mac with the other students in our year , because last week me and my partner wasn't in for most days we needed to catch up so we asked the students if we could use it more this week as they where ahead , however they still needed to do a lot more so their was some conflict with the mac. We filmed most of our production just need to sort out a few shots so they look correct , and so we can fill the whole 2 minutes as the shorts we planed in pr-production only took up 1 minute 40. Me and my partner both learned how to use live-type this week. It was a very easy to use and was very effective. we both came up with the title 'Fast life' for our production as most drug dealers or people which are in gangs die when their at a young age and people who are in poverty and have to struggle normal grow up much faster then anyone else as they mature faster because they have to help their family members. live type was very easy to use as i had use such software before like Photoshop and fireworks to produce fonts and typography. i went for a very simple font for the typography because when i analysed other british social realism credits they didn't have big  fancy typography. It was simple and bold so the audience could easily read them but it wouldn't interfere with the opening scene. We also realized that we needed much more credits then we thought as the gaps in between the credits where too long and it didn't keep up with the pace of the film. This week i have improved my skills with the camera as well , it was much easy to setup the camera and get filming as before it would take me and my partner at least 10 minutes to get started which was wasting our time. We also got our friends to be in our production ,they already knew the location and time where to meet because we planned it before , this made setting up very fast and we was able to film it without any problems. we also got a message from are artist 'sqeeks' saying that we are able to use his music which was good information to hear as we didn't really think about anyone else's music which would represent our opening scene any better.

Production log 7

This week as not been has productivity as last week as me and my partner have not been in as much. this has had a big impact on our work as we are falling behind due to our attendance. This means we are going to make up for the absentee and put more effort into our work. However me and my partner are still working well together , we have had a couple of arguments about the production but this has just made our production better as we are both very passionate about what we want in our production and what we want to portrait in our opening scene. we have needed to change some of our shots so it works more fluently . we also realized that the pacing of our work its not up to scratch. Some points of the opening scene is very fast and other parts are very long and tedious . we also realized that we haven't got enough shots in our plan so we needed to come up with a few shots which will be able to extend our opening scene to get to the full 2 minutes. We also realized that we hadn't had any shots which show the location of where the film is set , me and my partner both agreed to take establishing shots at the begging of the opening scene so the audience have a understanding of where the film is being produced. Also at this point me and my partner have not made a title of our opening scene as we have been to busy producing the opening scene. With the shots we produce we wanted to show a professional look but also a give it a rigid look. we found it hard to keep a balance between the two as most the shots looked to rigid. As a result me and partner have both agreed to be in all next week and increase the productivity as we are lacking behind.

The key issue in production this week as been getting the right shots , my partners house has very narrow corridors in which i can place the camera , this is affecting the rule of thirds as my partner is tall and the camera is unable to get his face a third down the screen. Also another problem that we found is when we are about to film we realize we are not wearing the same clothes as we was wearing in the shots before , this is slowing us down as we have to wait until we have the right clothing to film. Also the camera is shaking a lot even though we have it on the tripod , we are having problems with keeping it straight. Also you can hear the director keep saying 'go' this will need to be edited out . There is also a lot of sound in the background when we film , we would need to take out the background noise when editing so we cant hear the wind or people in the background. Also because we filmed our first scene at 1 pm the lighting is very bright however when we try to film after school the lighting is got a dimmer and doesn't work with the continuity. Also we are sharing a mac with another pair of students in our year. we have talk to each other and come to agreement when each other can use the equipment so its fair. However this is still a disadvantage as the other students don't have to share and get to use the equipment freely. Also me and my partner don't have a lot of camera skills so it took us a little while to get use to the buttons on the camera. Also me and my partner are not very good at acting so it takes us quiet a long time to film one shot to make it look more realistic if we had got a actor it would make the production much more quicker and easier.
