Cont Ex Eval 2

Edit Workshop Evaluation

Use of techniques

  • 180 Degree Rule
  • Rule of Thirds
  • Match on Action

In my media work i had to include the 180-degree rule , the 180- degree rule is a basic guideline regarding the relationship between a character and another character being on one side of the camera at all times. An imaginary line is normally drawn showing the camera man where he his able to move without breaking this rule.  For example if there is two people talking , one in a green shirt and the other one is  red shirt. The person in the green shirt should always be on the right and the person in the red should always be on the left. This is so it doesn't confuse the audience.

We also had to include the rule of thirds in my media work , the rule of thirds is when the eyes of all the characters sit on the top horizontal line. The image on demonstrates the rule of thirds.

match on action was also applied in my media work. Match on action is when something happens in a shot. The scene is cut and there is another shot of the action carrying on. For example if there was a shot of someone kicking the door down , there would be a shot of the person kicking the door , then maybe another shot of the door being pushed open.

     Challenges during production

when filming the production me and my partner had a few problems. First problem was the space. Considering we was filming in a small office we could not film all the shots we wanted to. For example when one of the characters was going to sit down we wanted a panoramic but it was to hard to film because of the space. if we would of planned out the space we needed it would of been a much better shot.

Another challenge of production was making it seem like we filmed it in one go. Because we filmed in three different days we had to change the setting to what it looked like before. This was a challenge because we was using a office that didn't belong to us and it was in use. We had to look back at our shots that we done before and change the setting to what it used to look like. We also had to wear the same clothes , this become a problem when one of us would forget to bring the right Hood or trousers. This meant we had to delay the filming and wait until we had the right clothing.

Also the main problem during the production was the acting. Me and my partner both played parts in our own production. We both wasn't very strong actors, and this could be shown in some of our scenes. it also delayed us a lot because we couldn't make the shot seems realistic enough. Also because we was mates , we hadn't seen each other act before and when we saw each other out of our comfort zone we would laugh a lot which would consume are filming time.

    Challenges during post-production

One of the main problems i had during the editing process  was the speed of the film. some parts of the film was very fast and had a lot of things happening at once , however some parts where very slow and boring. As a result i cut down some of the parts and put them in separably making one speed flow throughout the film.

    Strengths

One of the strengths was the comedy of the production. when others saw the final piece they would laugh when necessary. This comedy aspect was purposely put into the film to give it our own input.

Also the friendship i had with my partner made is easy to get along with. when ever i had a problem i could easily ask my partner for help and he could do the same. We both had the same idea and we could easily communicate after school and in school. We both had good creative ideas , which helped us plan easier. We also both wanted to succeed in this project so we done our very best.

    Weakness

We didn't have a lot of weakness , the the main one was the clothing, because we didn't shoot everything at the same time we needed to wear the same clothes. This was hard because clothes can get dirty and not be wearable for the next day. This delayed some filming time.

    Cont Ex Eval 1

In this scenario we was asked to walk down a corridor , into a room. once in the room they would walk across the room and sit down. In the room would be another person waiting in a chair. These two people will then exchange dialogue. In order to make it a more fun and interest piece of work , me and my partner  decide to make a Kong-Fu theme. we added in jumps and flying kicks.

The key media language skills we tried to demonstrate where mostly shot angles . We used a shot reverse shot which cross cuts between two shots. This shot also a cut to show the viewer something not immediately visible. Also had to use a cut away. a cutaway is a bridging shot between 2 shots of the same subject , often used to soften uncomfortable jumps in time and space , this makes the shot look a lot less messy. match on actions  is where you can get the action all the way through . we also had to keep the eye line 3/4 of the shot , this is called a eye line match. Ensure the eyes are on the top horizontal to ensure characters are looking at each other. finally we had to use a reaction shot , this shows someone reacting to a scenario. The task should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of match action shot/reverse shot and the 180- degree rule.

In this project i worked with another student named Joe shepherd. We worked will together as a team , and build idea off of each other. In the plan we both done the story bored  I personal did the first half and my partner done the second half. we both acted in our film , this made is easier to film considering we didn't have to wait on anyone to film.

This grouping was very successful because if i needed to contact Joe in the weekend he was easy to access because we are friends out of school. Me and Joe also have a lot of competition between us , so when one of us created a idea , the other person would create a even better idea. Considering me and Joe are mature we didn't mind making a fool of our self , this made our film more successful.

In our movie , most of the film was based on Kong Fu. Me and my partner brainstormed ideas that we fort was creative but realistic to do in our environment  Once one of us had a creative idea the other person would reply with another creative idea which made it easy. we didn't want there to be a person typical working through the corridor so we added a stair jump. This gave a more Kong-Fu feeling.

The story bored was very useful. It gave us the outline on what we wanted to achieve. However we soon released that we wouldn't be able to complete all the shots we originality put on our story bored. So we then had to fit the surrounds around the the story bored to make a more realistic piece of work.
